If there's one thing Phillip Island is famous for ... it's the penguins! A must do.
But also take a look at Churchill Island, the Koala Reserve, the Antarctic experience at the Knobbies or a seal/whale tour.
A great surfing destination with the National Surfing Reserve consisting of four breaks including Cape Woolamai, Smiths Beach, Summerlands and Cat Bay. But don't overlook the plenty of other spots such as YCW, Berry's Beach, Kitty Miller & Surf Beach.
You can hire kit or get lessons at Island Surfboards in Smiths beach.
The island has great beaches facing in every direction. You'll find something for every experience. Swimming or water sports. Sandcastles or surfing. Walking or snoozing. Cricket or sundowners. Busy or deserted. Blowy or sheltered. For dogs or for nature. Winter or Summer.
Cowes, Smiths and Woolamai are patrolled at busy times over summer.
The island has a myriad of stunning walks including Cape Woolamai, Pyramid Rock to Berry's Beach, The Nobbies Boardwalk, Summerland Peninsula Circuit, Oswin Robers Reserve. Forrest Caves.
Just off the island the Bass Coast Coastal Walk is well worth the effort.
If you're into road bikes then there are many great early morning options to circumnavigate all or parts of the island with some stunning spots for a break. The more ambitious can also reach out for the Gippsland hills over the bridge.
There are also some excellent more leisurely bike paths around the island.
For a day out off the island head for the rail trails in Gippsland or get a ferry over to French Island. You can hire bikes over there - and electric bikes are a great option.
Try some local wine - Phillip Island and Gippsland have some producers offering a lovely drop.
Phillip Island Winery and Purple Hen Winery are on the Island. Both have a cellar door, host events and have food options. The former has a full blown restaurant.
There's also a winery on French Island and plenty back over the bridge. And drinking Mornington Peninsula wines is still considered drinking local.
Check out the excellent Shearwaters and Bandicoots wine store in Cowes.
You'll never be short of options on the island. Try the local fish shop in Newhaven, butchers in Ventnor & Hilltop or markets on Churchill Island. You'll find pubs, bars, the RSL, italian/french/greek restaurants, wine bars, fish and chips, pizza, chinese/thai/indian restaurants and take away and of course gelati.
Cowes is the hub but seek out great options in Newhaven, Woolamai Beach, Silverleaves, Ventnor, Rhyll and San Remo.
Phillip Island Golf Club is a welcoming, fun, well maintained 18 hole course for those with some experience. The club house has a cafe and full bar and vibrant patio as you rehydrate.
To the west of Cowes is the Aussie Golf Ranch. It has a fun Par 3 course and a pitch and putt.
In Cowes, let your hair down at Grumpys Crazy golf.
The waters of Westernport Bay provide a great water sports playground. Whether you sail, kite, paddle sitting down, paddle standing up, ski or board behind a boat, fish, jetski, cruise, scuba, snorkel, swim, float or jetty jump there's something for everyone.
Boat ramps are in Cowes, Rhyll & Newhaven. Sailing and boat clubs are in Cowes and Newhaven.
Whether from a boat, jetty or beach there are fish out there. Big and small.
Hire and charter options available in Rhyll and San Remo.
Bass Strait Direct in Newhaven is a guaranteed way to get excellent fish.
The world reknown picturesque Phillip Island Grand Prix track hosts the extraordinary Moto GP and Superbikes events.
All year the Go Kart track (over 750m replica of the main track) provides an adrenaline rush experience. Tanmdem Karts available for the young or not so confident.
There's plenty of other things to do, even when its raining. Check out Amaze n Things, Clip & Climb, Phillip Island Ten Pin Bowling, Phillip Island Chocolate Factory and the Phillip Island Bowls Club.
